Fishing in Japan: The Big Fish Round-up

I was at the beach with my son the other day and witnessed “The Big Fish Round-Up”!! There were a few boats, a net, and two machines used to slowly pull in each end of the net. The final result was a pretty good sized catch of fish and squid. Here are some pictures I snapped with my cell phone. Sorry for the size and quality. For some reason I had my phone on a very low setting.

Several Different types of fish were caught. I was surprised there wasn’t a bigger varity.

Lots of fairly big sqiud were caught.

Near the end of the round up.

They used 2 machines to help pull in the net.

Toward the end everyone started to help pull in both sides of the rope.

Next time they do this I am going to try and bring my Digital SLR camera to get some better quality pictures. If I do I will probably do another post with those images. I believe they only do this once a week or once every couple of weeks. Trying to get more information on this from my in-laws.
