Fukuoka Geeks Meet Up
Feb 1st

Fukuoka Geeks
We are starting a meet up group called “Fukuoka Geeks”. It will be held at least once a month and all are invited to attend. The first meeting will be held Friday February 19th. The location is to be decided (TBD) but should be somewhere in Tenjin. It all depends on the number of people interested.
We want to get the Fukuoka Geek Community together to talk technology. Doesn’t matter if you are a big geek or just a little geeky, come down and meet. We hope both Japanese and Gaijin will come so get ready to speak a little Japanese (or English).
When: February 19th, 2010 (Friday)
Where: Tenjin (TBD)
Who: Anyone that is interested in technology.
More details will follow.

English School Closings in Australia [Geos]
Feb 1st
Just when you didn’t think the economy could get worse, we have another victim.
This time it’s in Australia, where many Japanese students go to study English.
AUSTRALIA’S international education industry has suffered another massive blow with the collapse of eight English language colleges, leaving 2300 foreign students around the country in the dark over their future.
The single largest group affected is in Melbourne and has an estimated 530 students unable to complete their courses. Some had just one more week before the end of their course. A total of 390 employees have lost their jobs.
Japanese-owned GEOS, which operates a global chain of English language schools, closed its Australian operations late yesterday. [Read More]
Hopefully the Australian Government will do their best to help all of these students. We have heard rumors that Geos in Japan isn’t in the best condition either… So if you are a student or an employee of Geos be very careful. Also if anyone teachers out there want to give us the inside story on Geos Japan, contact us.

Winter Surfing in Fukuoka [Video]
Dec 28th
Went out to Futamigaura on Sunday for a drive and found some pretty nice waves!! It was a little cold but the sun was out, which made it a nice day. If It wasn’t so cold I would have jumped in to do some bodyboarding, but since I am from Hawaii I can’t handle the cold water.
After watching the surfing we at at Hinode Tacos. The tacos were excellent!! I recommend that you stop by and have some the next time you are out near Futamigaura. Or if you don’t have anything to do, get in your car and drive out there, you wont regret it!

Indian Food in Fukuoka
Dec 25th
There is a great little Indian restaurant just out side of Fukuoka City in Imajuku. The name of the place is Sapuna (サプナ今宿福岡). I have been to the restaurant twice and have added it to the Fukuoka Talk list of great places to eat. If you get a chance and you can make it out to Imajuku, I highly recommend it.

Here are some pictures of the food we ordered. I am a big fan of Naan, and their Naan was excellent, especially the Garlic Naan!!

Their phone number is in the picture, but just in case you can read it, it’s 092-806-6024.
